Help for Complex PTSD: Start Here
A Few Things to Keep In Mind
1. There is a lot of information on this blog, just let it simmer.
2. Be Open. You may catch yourself saying: “this won’t work:”, “my story is different” right from the start. It’s sometimes hard to do in CPTSD, but staying open just a little bit can help.
3. Some of the resistance is just from change itself and some of it is from Complex Trauma. It’s the body’s way of continuing to protect itself, the way it knows how.
4. Be patient with yourself and give yourself time.
5. Use compassion with yourself. Remind yourself to use a kind inner dialogue.
6. You are brave and you deserve to heal.
7. It’s not always One Big Thing that will heal but an accumulation of all the little practices that you will put together.
8. Adjust to what works for you.
Brief Intro
I first created this space as a place of hope and information, both of which are so desperately needed when navigating complex trauma. I communicate this through sharing the process of navigating CPTSD from lived experience: the hard, the neutral, and the positive.
“You can’t be brave unless you are scared. Being brave is doing it anyway.”
(Please don’t worry, there is no mention of graphic actions that happened.) I do share how difficult some experiences have been for context, but my main goal is to shed light and offer hope.
Remember that Complex PTSD makes us feel like we are isolated and alone in our journey. It can feel like no one could possibly understand this pain.
Be gentle with yourself, but realize that you are brave, and that you are not a fragile being at your core.
Warmly,
Allie C. | CalmFire™
